Combination Brows are a cosmetic eyebrow tattoo technique that combines natural-looking hair strokes with machine shading in one personalised brow design. Hair strokes are typically concentrated through the front of the brow, while shading adds density and definition through the mid-section and tail. The result can be adjusted from softer and more natural to more defined, depending on your skin, brow condition and preferred finish.
Your Combination Brows appointment includes a personalised consultation, brow design, colour selection and treatment, with the most suitable hair-stroke technique selected according to your skin, existing brows and desired result.

Book your Combination Brows appointment at Lilac Beauty in Rosebery, Sydney. Your appointment includes consultation and personalised brow design before treatment begins.
Book NowYour Combination Brows appointment takes approximately two hours and includes consultation, brow design, colour selection and treatment. Your artist will also assess which hair-stroke technique is most suitable for your skin and brows.
Your appointment begins with a complimentary consultation to discuss your brow goals, existing brow hair and preferred finish. Your brows are then measured and mapped, and the proposed shape is confirmed with you before treatment begins.
Pigment colour is selected to complement your skin tone, existing brows and desired result. Depending on your suitability, the hair-stroke component may be created with manual microblading or machine nano hair strokes.
Natural-looking hair strokes are typically added through the front of the brow, followed by machine shading through the mid-section and tail to create added fullness and definition.
After treatment, you will receive guidance on caring for the brow area during healing. Initial surface healing usually takes around 10–14 days, while the healed result is better assessed after approximately 4–6 weeks.
Meet Your Artist
With more than 15 years in the beauty industry, Laleh brings a personalised and thoughtful approach to every treatment, with careful attention to each client’s features, skin and desired result.
Meet LalehCombination Brows may suit clients who want the natural appearance of individual hair strokes through the front of the brow while also wanting more fullness and definition through the mid-section and tail. They can be particularly helpful for brows with sparse areas or gaps where a combination of techniques can create a more balanced result.
The most suitable technique depends on your skin type, existing brow hair, previous cosmetic tattooing and the result you would like to achieve. Combination Brows are not automatically a better choice than Microblading, Nano Brows or Ombre Brows; the most appropriate option is selected according to the individual.
Combination Brows can be suitable for some clients with combination or moderately oily skin. The shaded areas can provide additional definition where very fine hair strokes may not retain as predictably.
For very oily skin, enlarged or open pores, or skin with poor hair-stroke retention, an Ombre or Powder Brow treatment may be a more suitable option. Your skin and existing brows can be assessed during consultation before the treatment approach is confirmed.
Combination Brows typically last around 1–3 years, with many clients seeing results for approximately 2–3 years. Longevity varies from person to person and is influenced by factors including skin type and oiliness, metabolism, natural skin regeneration, sun exposure, skincare products, exfoliation and aftercare.
As pigment gradually fades over time, a colour refresh may be considered when needed. The timing varies according to how the brows heal and fade.
Initial surface healing generally takes around 10–14 days. During the first few days the brows may appear darker than the final healed result, followed by mild flaking and temporary patchiness or fading as the skin recovers. The healed colour and overall result are usually better assessed after approximately 4–6 weeks.
During healing, avoid picking or scratching flaking skin and follow the aftercare guidance provided by Lilac Beauty. Prolonged soaking, steam, swimming, saunas and heavy sweating should be avoided during the early healing period, and makeup, retinol, acids and exfoliating products should not be applied directly over the healing brow area.
For full guidance, read our eyebrow tattoo aftercare instructions.
An initial touch-up is generally recommended around 4–6 weeks after the first Combination Brows treatment. This allows the healed result to be assessed and any areas that may need additional pigment or refinement to be reviewed. The amount of touch-up required can vary between clients depending on skin, healing and pigment retention.
If you have previous eyebrow tattooing, Microblading, Nano Brows, Nanoblading or other permanent makeup, please let Lilac Beauty know before booking. Existing pigment, colour and brow shape may need to be assessed before a new Combination Brows treatment can be recommended.
Depending on the condition of the previous work, correction, additional fading or removal may be recommended before proceeding.
Microblading primarily creates individual hair-like strokes using a manual technique. Combination Brows add shading to the hair-stroke design, creating additional density and definition through the brow.
Nano Brows or Nanoblading focus on fine hair strokes created with a machine technique. Combination Brows may use machine nano hair strokes when suitable, but also include shading through other areas of the brow for a fuller result.
Ombre or Powder Brows focus on machine shading and a soft powder effect rather than individual hair strokes. Combination Brows use both approaches, with hair-like detail through the front and shading through the mid-section and tail.
Combination Brows combine individual hair strokes with machine shading. The hair strokes create natural-looking detail, particularly through the front of the brow, while shading adds fullness and definition through the mid-section and tail.
Not always. Some Combination Brows treatments use manual Microblading for the hair-stroke component, while others may use machine Nano hair strokes. The most suitable technique is selected according to your skin, existing brows and desired result.
They can be suitable for some clients with combination or moderately oily skin. For very oily skin, enlarged pores or poor hair-stroke retention, Ombre or Powder Brows may be recommended instead.
